MODEL UNITED NATIONS

This project is a replica of the United Nations. It's where students act as a representative for a country and debate to find a resolution to the topic/situation. In 1945 the United Nations was formed to prevent another World War, it's where countries go to discuss world problems and try to solve them or try to improve the state of the global situation being discussed. We made this project for students to be more aware of current world problems and also to learn different perspectives of people/countries in the big situation. I was assigned Turkey, and I was in the World Health Organization committee.

I chose this article since I knew it was a reliable source and it stated a lot of facts about my country (Turkey). I found this source by searching articles on google that had to do with WHO. In this article I found a lot of useful information such as how much health care is being provided and etc.

For my postion paper I tried to follow the guidelines. I liked the critique I got from the other classrooms. It was helpful hearing different opinions. The best critique I got was when they told me to talk more about the problem to clear up on the first paragraph. I'm most proud that I got it done because I felt as if my class didn't have as much time as we needed.

I actually didn't end up changing anything from my first draft since I really liked how my first one came out, plus the fact that we didn't have enough time. I don't think I would change anything of my speech if I could redo it again since I got my point across in the exact time that we had. But if I had more time for my speech I would add more facts about the topic.

MY EXPERIENCE FROM MUN

I am most proud of being able to handle the debate since at first I thought I wasn't prepared for it. I am really proud of my committee for being able to cooperate with each other very well, in fact they wanted us to be a little more agressive. I am also really proud that my committee passed 4 out of the 5 resolutions we made, especially since the first day of MUN we didn't finish our resolutions. If I could do something differently I would probably pose more questions and challenge a countries thinking. I would also try to speak up more and try to make bigger deals with the other countries. For next years future delegates I think that we should give them more time and more examples of what things are supposed to look like. Maybe like make teachers do an example debate, that would help a lot. Just basically give more time to prepare and also do one on one's with each student and especially with those who are lost.

KEY MOMENT

My favorite moment was when I decided to get a little aggressive and said "If the U.S. was so generous they would actually accept refugees", then from there things got heated. It made us have a little of controversy since we were very cooperative with each other.
