REFUGEE SIMULATION

This project is about a refugee's struggle through the process of leaving their home country. We made this simulation to inform people what they go through. With informing them we hoped people made an opinion on the refugee crisis.

DECISION MAKING

First we started off with 3 options. We had to choose between an exhibition (maybe in a museum), a play, or working with the IRC. Most people in my class voted on the exhibition and for the other pod they chose the play. So our teacher (Dr.P) decided to make us do a simulation because he got inspired by watching some ted talks and looking at video games.

LINKS

For the event sequence we had to make an order of how our character traveled through the refugee process.

CHARACTER SHEET

In the character sheet it just shows the information on that character that we got assigned.

This document was to do research on our country (serbia) and find their information on refugees. Not only did we learn about refugees in our country but also a little bit of information on our country.

ESSAY QUIZ

For the essay quiz I actually didn't end up taking it. I was absent that day so intead my teacher assigned me to finish the study guide for the essay quiz. It was basically to show the knowledge you have about syrian refugees and the syrian civil war.

HANDOUT

I chose this handout because it was one of the days that we watched a video on refugees. I really liked watching videos like that because it put me in the perspective of these asylum seekers. This was also when we started working on our station design doc so we started ifguring out how the simulation was going to look like.

PLAY TEST 1

The first play test was kind of like not prepared at all. It was sort of like here let's just try this and see how it goes to see what to work on. My group did "improv" so we just made up our lines and improvised our props with cardboard and etc. The first time we did our play test we were in a different setting so it was pretty different to the final product.

PLAY TEST 2

For the second playtest it was similar to the first one but a little bit more organized. The difference was we assigned each other roles this time, and we knew what to say sort of, although we wer still kind of winging it. It was in the same space and we used the cardboard the second time as well.

PLAY TEST 3

For this last play test we were prepared. We had all our props, and a new set up. This time my group knew what to say when to say it and how to stay in character. It was way more organized than both the first and second play test.

THE REAL SIMULATION

In the final play test I thought it wasn't going to come out that good, but it ended up turning out great. Plenty of audience really felt like they were refugees with the expression on their face. We had everything ready and our costumes were very realistic or at least close to it. What I liked that we did was the stamp thing and wrote S on their hand to show that they are from Serbia.  It was interesting seeing how people did during the simulation. Some people struggled because they got sent back to us and I liked that because it showed that they felt just a tiny bit of the struggle that refugees go through everyday. If I could change something, it would be more of preparing for the simulation instead of just doing so much research because we didn't need that much. After the simulation a lot of people went up to Dr.P and said they really liked the idea of stamps because it makes it seem very realistic as well as our acting. I learned many of things from working as a group, we made sure we all did our share of work. It was just another experience I had as a High Tech student to learn to work better in a group.

FINAL PLAY TEST

This play test was the best. Although it ws a bit hard since they kind of knew us they still went along with it. It's hard to remember exactly what happened but I do remember me and my partner staying character so it will be more believable.
